Velva Florene Whisnant

Graveside services for Velva Florene Whisnant, 87, West Plains, Missouri, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 1, 2018 at Howell Memorial Park Cemetery, under the direction of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.

 

Mrs. Whisnant passed away at 9:43 p.m., Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at Brooke Haven Healthcare.

 

She was born August 2, 1931, at Gainesville, Missouri, to Willy Strong and Ruth White Strong.  On May 15, 1959, she was married at West Plains, Missouri, to Frank Whisnant.  Mrs. Whisnant loved her family; they were important to her.  She enjoyed gardening, working outside and loved her home and keeping it clean.  Mrs. Whisnant was of the Baptist faith.

 

She is survived by her husband, Frank Whisnant, of the family home; two sons, Charles R. Whisnant and wife, Jennie and Tracey Whisnant and wife, Tracy, all of West Plains; one step-daughter, Audrey Morian, Bellcourt, North Dakota; six grandchildren, Alan, Randy, Jess, Charlie, Jared and Michelle; several great-grandchildren, including a special great-grandchild, Lowell “Buzz” Stewart; two brothers, Thomas  Lawson and wife, Debbie, Gainesville, Missouri and James Lawson, Dora, Missouri; three sisters, Faye Warren, West Plains, Marie Brumbly, State of Oklahoma and Sharon Rich, Gainesville, Missouri; three sisters-in-law, Sue Ward, Dora, Missouri, Leta Mae Terry, Kansas City, Kansas and Mickey Cox, and husband, Danny, Iola, Kansas; and several nieces and nephews.

 

Her parents, two children, Frankie Jo and Gregory Dean, one brother, Darrell Strong, step-father, Troy Lawson, four brothers-in-law, Cecil Terry, Oscar Warren, Jack Callahan and Merle Terry and daughter-in-law, Terri Whisnant, preceded her in death.

 

Mrs. Whisnant will lie in state from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m., Sunday, at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.  Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and may be left at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Online condolences may be expressed at www.robertsondrago.com.
