Mr. Smith passed away on July 4th, 2019 at West Vue Nursing Center.

He was born to C.C. and Ella Smith at Holcomb, Missouri on June 1, 1937. The family moved to West Plains when Danny was four years old. He graduated from West Plains High School in 1955 and married his high school sweetheart, Jeanie Patillo, in 1958. They had two children, Cy Smith and Sabrina Smith Lewis. He served in the Missouri National Guard for seven years and taught school at Richards R-5 when he was a young man; Danny was an insurance adjuster in Piedmont, Missouri for about ten years, but was a salesman at heart. He sold men’s clothes, milk, potato chips, bread, trailers, insurance, real estate and was an appraiser.  Dan was a Boy Scout leader in Piedmont, and has been a member of many civic organizations in West Plains. In the last few years, Dan was a member of the Aid’s Coffee Group and joined them for as long as his health would allow. Dan attended the First United Methodist Church and sang in their choir for about fifty years, then moved to the First Christian Church in his later years, where he sang in the choir and attended with his family. Worshiping and praising God through song was a central part of his life.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanie Patillo Smith, of the family home; his son, Cy Smith of Salem, Oregon; his daughter and son-in-law, Sabrina Smith Lewis and James Lewis, of West Plains, Missouri; his seven grandchildren, Travis Spencer Smith, Katie Janzen Eatherton (Adam), Amy Janzen, Evan Janzen, Nic Lewis, (Jordan), Brittany Lewis (Zach) and Michael Bradley; and five great-grandchildren.   He also has one surviving sister, Lucy Smith Bielek, of Ventura, California; two sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Rosalea and Dan Cargill and Carrie and David Thompson, all of West Plains, Missouri; and many special and much loved nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, C.C. and Ella Smith, and four sisters, Sylvia, Mable, Mary Catherine, and Jo Ann and one brother, Willis Eugene (Gene) Smith.

Visitation will be from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m., Friday, July 12th, at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Oak Lawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the West Plains Police Department K-9 Cop Fund or a charity of choice and may be left at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
