Franklin “Frank” David Smith, son of the late Verda and Golda (Weaver) Smith was born on Sept. 6, 1935 in Kansas and departed this life on Oct. 28, 2023 at the Autumn Oaks Care Center in Mtn. Grove following a short illness. He was 88 years, 1 month and 22 days of age.
The family moved back to Mtn. Grove when he was a small boy. Frank attended Fairview school and was saved at a young age.
Frank was united in marriage to Janie Perry on Sept. 25, 1969 at the home of Rev. Homer Smith. He worked at the Knot Hole Factory and then he and Janie opened their small engine repair shop until he retired in 1996. Frank loved to work with his hands; you would always find him making things out of wood or leather. He also loved playing his guitar and fiddle.
Frank and Janie didn’t have any children of their own, but they had a lot of nieces and nephews that they loved as their own.
Frank was a loving husband, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend. He will be truly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Janie; sisters, Lorene Brickell, Evelyn Shaw, Dorothy Norton and Lavond Simpson; nephews, Vernon Brickell and David Simpson; nieces, Laura Shaw and Lavonne Smith; great niece, Ember Lorraine Cook; great nephews, David French and Tim Noel. He is survived by his sister, Marge Ragsdale of Marshfield; brother-in-law, Wayne Simpson of Mtn. Grove and by the many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and friends that will truly miss him. Rest easy Uncle Frank, we love you.
The family would like to say thank you to Autumn Oaks and Three River Hospice for the wonderful care they provided during Frank’s time of need.
Visitation will be held Friday, November 3 at 12:00- 1:00 with Funeral Services to follow at 1:00 at the Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home in Cabool. Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery, North Main St, Mountain Grove, MO.
